Aurora

This will be a short blog, I only have one photo to share, but the story behind it is one that will be forever talked about.

For a few years now, I’ve been adding different things to my bucket list. Some I’ve already accomplished. But one that has been on my mind is to photograph the Northern Lights. Problem is I’m too far south to capture its beauty. As you know I travel to Southampton, Ontario all the time! Is my second home. Still far south, I’ve never seen the lights in that area, until this passed weekend.

So the story goes like this. This past Saturday my husband and daughter were heading down to the beach around 10pm to see the stars over Lake Huron. It was an incredible sight to see. So quite, and peaceful, I set my camera up to shoot the, stars, when I noticed a pinkish hue in the corner of one of my photographs. Problem was, you couldn’t see it with you own eyes because it was so very faint. I showed my husband, and was convinced that was the Northern Lights. Excited, we headed back to our car and headed for  The Range Light House, at the mouth of the Saugeen River.

I quickly set up my camera, and took a very long exposure shot (around 60 sec) and captured the most beautiful photo I’ve ever taken! I was jumping up and down on the beach and so happy, that I couldn’t wait to come home to see it on my computer.  And there you have it. Another of my bucket list. I will never forget that night.

Who said you can’t have your cake and eat it too?

Oh my! Cake for everyone! Ms.C came to my studio for a cake smash session. She’s a big girl now! She’s ONE! All dulled up in her pink tutu, she was right into the cake! Such a cute little girl, had right into the icing. Nothing could stop her from having a good ole time!

Oh the mess, the mess!!! But it was so much fun! Diving into that icing was pure bliss! Watching her squeal with delight was a treat!

The clean up… Because you just have too. A sink full of soap and water is all we needed… and Ms.C had a blast splashing around. What a wonder session! Fun, and full of laughs!!

Another great family, cute boys, and a great summer sky, what more could you ask for? I can’t wait to this all over next year. Im going to miss the laughter of kids, roaring waves, and superior sunsets.

Things up close (Macro)

Macro… One of my loves.. I love finding interesting fowers, bugs, and anything small to photograph. I recently bought a 100mm macro lens just for this! I also use it for portraits. It’s cool to see detail that you can’t see with your own eyes. A must have in your camera bag!

Sisters in Southampton

Another Beatuiful hazy day at my favourite place. South Beach is a small area of beach on the South side of Southampton. Cute little area, great for kids to swim and frolic in the sun. These 3 cuties were the hightlight of my morning. Each having different personalties.  White blond hair and blue eyes, really made these photos feel like summer. And of course super cute Maggie the Golden retriever….

At The Beach

What a summer! Its been so hot. The best place to be is on the beach. I recently had a photo session in Southampton,Ontario. The water was calm, the air was warm, and this family was the highlight of it all. 3 cute boys, and wonderful carefree parents, just made the whole session come together.

How do you keep kids engaged when you’re shooting?, well, for me the best this to let them do what they want. Most of the times candids are the best of the lot! Trying to pose kids at a young age is tough, and I find letting them be themselves works the best!

Why I love shooting at the beach…? Especially on an overcast day?  The beautiful defused light gives that beach feel, with warm pastel colours.

Food Vendors, Locals, & The Homeless

My family and I were out on a day trip when we came across a food vendor. The ladies (mother and daughter). Cooking up a storm of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. I had to ask another local who was sitting beside me and could speak english what was on the menu. Alot of the food prepared involves plantens. Kinda like a banana but tougher and so as sweet. I dont peronally care for them, but it’s a staple in Puerto Rican food preperation. Mostley deep fried, some of the food was rather tasty. For me it was a vacation treat. I couldn’t eat this food everyday. We found some tasty food, and the ladies were very kind.

Along the roadside, colourful fruits and veggies line the roadway. Everything local you could imagine and for a fair price. Souvenir shops offer all kind of trinkets and such for those who are looking to bring something back form their trip.

Amongst the crowds of people , no matter where you travel, the are homeless and beggars. I found them not too bad, not pushy, but i did feel sorry form them. Some of the dwellings are run down, where others are not. An experience for anyone to see, especially children who have everything, clothes, food and a roof over their heads.

As we drove around (with my window open of course), I managed to capture a few photos of every day people just doing every day things. Simple life….

Old San Juan Colours

My first of many blogs of our trip to Puerto Rico.

Old San Juan was the highlight our trip, so much that we went twice.

This blog: colourful buildings.

Winding blue cobblestone streets and the rich-colored, tile-roofed buildings with ornate balconies and heavy wooden doors that open onto inner courtyards in the style of southern Spain. My camera’s shutter wouldn’t stop. I just kept shooting. The colours of the old buildings were breathtaking. People walked the beautiful winding streets, for food, shopping, and sight seeing. This was the highlight of our trip. I just loved the open windows and doors leading into quaint shops. Every street was unique in its one way.
